RPCV4EA Writing Letters to the Editor that Actually Get Published

27 Jul 2021
7:00pm - 8:00pm CDT

Join us with special guest speaker, Rosemary O'Hara, who retired in 2021 as editorial page editor of the So. Florida Sun Sentinel and, before that, served as editorial page editor of the Tampa Tribune and Managing editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer.  O'Hara will provide a behind the scenes look at how an editorial section is produced and the process for selecting letters for publication.

O'Hara will be introduced and welcomed by Glenn Blumhorst, President and CEO of the National Peace Corps Association. After a presentation and question and answer session, the team will split into two groups, one that is new to writing letters to the editor and another that will go ahead and write their letters.  Working together in focused teams we can provide the feedback and support that is essential to a quality piece of writing.

Please come to the meeting prepared with a newspaper article you would like to target for your letter. Also, feel free to write your letter ahead of time and we can help peer review it!

Please feel free to reach out to Dylan Hinson, dylanhinson@gmail.com, with any questions about the Letters to The Editor events. They are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Mark your calendars. These techniques can be used for any topic that you feel passionately about. Peace Corps funding and support? Refugee and immigration challenges? Climate change and environment? Speak out!
