Abstract:

We need to have a strategy brainstorming meeting: although professed interest remains very high, and nobody is leaving our email roster despite offers to remove anyone who finds our meeting notices etc annoying, participation in our monthly meetings has dropped off to such small numbers that it feels risky to invite a featured speaker.

Some things to consider:

-- Are monthly meetings too frequent? If yes, then how frequently should we meet?

-- Is the monthly day (4th Thursday) or time (5 PM PDT / 8 PM EDT) inconvenient? One reason it is inconvenient: CS-CA meets one week before the RPCV4EA leadership group -- or is it three weeks after? In any case, the present arrangement does create some coordination issues.

-- Are we addressing the right issues? Paul and I have been trying to invite a wide range of issues, hoping that our efforts would spawn champions and subcommittees who would pursue their personal passions and bring them back to the team when times for actions arise, but except for a few months of intense focus on refrigerant leakage this hasn't been happening to any significant extent.

-- Occasional webinars -- like "Leaking Havoc" -- have been very successful, including by bringing in significant additions to our email roster, but they haven't done much for ongoing active participation.

-- Working with the RPCV4EA leadership team, we've started putting together a plan for a fall 2023 program that will tie together climate-change-driven ocean level rise and the ongoing aftermath of nuclear weapons testing in the Pacific. This should be the perfect opportunity to further develop our relationship with the Veterans for Peace (Golden Rule project and Climate Crisis & Militarism project) -- but will we have enough interest on our end to pull it off?
